David S. Jarrett Appointed Chair of the Canadian Bar Association (National), Maritime Law Section
David S. Jarrett was recently appointed as the Chair for the Canadian Bar Association (National), Maritime Law Section for the 2023 – 2024 term. As Chair, David’s duties include overseeing section activities and presiding over its meetings. David was previously the Vice-Chair for the 2022 – 2023 term.
The Maritime Law Section deals with law and practice of provincial, national and international nature, affecting shipping and matters relating to shipping, the establishment, jurisdiction, procedure and organization of Canadian admiralty courts, and practice of lawyers before those courts. This Section, consisting of 357 members, serves as a voice and knowledge broker on all legal issues surrounding domestic and international maritime law and practice. This includes:
- Matters affecting shipping and navigation;
- Canadian admiralty courts, including their establishment, jurisdiction, procedure and organization;
- Marine commerce; and
- Transportation of goods and passengers by sea.
