New Partners
The partners of Bernard LLP are delighted to announce that associates Buck Hughes and Jeffrey Wu have each become partners at the firm, effective January 1, 2025. We congratulate Buck and Jeffrey on achieving this important career milestone.
Both Buck and Jeffrey have consistently demonstrated excellence and growth in their work through a dedication to the law, timely client service, diligent work ethic, and strong teamwork and leadership.
Buck has been with the firm since 2022 and practices primarily with our maritime, insurance, environmental and litigation groups. Buck was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2016, and since joining the firm has provided exceptional work for our clients and support to other lawyers within the firm. In addition to Buck’s land based environmental work, a notable example of his counsel work and teamwork is the recent British Columbia Court of Appeal decision in Catherwood Towing Ltd. v. Lehigh Hanson Materials Limited, 2024 BCCA 348.
Jeffrey articled with the firm and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2020. Jeffrey practices in the firm’s business law group, advising clients on a variety of corporate and commercial matters including private M&A, corporate finance, and corporate governance. Jeffrey also carries on significant marine sector solicitor practice, with a particular emphasis on water lot lease matters and on vessel transactions, financing, import and export, and Canada Shipping Act, 2001 vessel registration requirements. Jeffrey has provided exceptional legal support to clients, and this is most recently reflected in his leadership role representing the Graham Clarke Group in its acquisition of the Oak Bay Marine Group, a significant Vancouver Island based operation.
